Oracle Database 11g R2: Resource Manager & Scheduler (2 day)
Description
Sometimes configuration and operational problems can exist within an Oracle database installation because important technologies are either not fully understood or not properly implemented. The objective of this training module is to introduce advanced technologies which should be applied to any mission-critical database installation. The Database Resource Manager is an essential tool for database tuning and achieving optimum performance, and is often used in combination with the advisors. The Database Scheduler is a sophisticated tool which can automate many administration tasks and integrate the database into the larger data center and systems infrastructure.
This textbook can be used for advanced self-study, or for instructor-led training in both in-class or virtual-class environments. Textbooks can also be used for ongoing reference long after the course is completed.
AudienceThe primary target audiences for this course are: • Database administrators • Web server administrators • System administrators • Implementation specialists • Data center support engineers • Senior application designers and developers
CertificationThis course along with its prerequisites cover information necessary to complete the certification test EXAM #1Z1-053 ORACLE DATABASE 11g: ADMINISTRATION II.
PrerequisitesMany students taking this course have familiarity with system administration and administration of other non-Oracle databases, and this is helpful though not mandatory. Specific course prerequisites for this course are these Sideris titles:
• ORACLE DATABASE 11G R2: SQL FUNDAMENTALS – COMPLETE LIBRARY
• ORACLE DATABASE 11G R2: PL/SQL FUNDAMENTALS – COMPLETE LIBRARY
• ORACLE DATABASE 11G R2: ADMINISTRATION I

Suggested Next CoursesAdministrators may wish to proceed onto more focused and specialized courses with these modules:
• ORACLE DATABASE 11G R2: GRID INFRASTRUCTURE & ASM
• ORACLE DATABASE 11G R2: PERFORMANCE TUNING
• ORACLE DATABASE 11G R2: SQL TUNING
• ORACLE DATABASE 11G R2: ENCRYPTION & ADVANCED DATA SECURITY
• ORACLE ENTERPRISE MANAGER 11G R2: GRID CONTROL
Objectives
The objective of this training module is to introduce advanced technologies which should be applied to any mission-critical database installation. Among the subjects considered are:
• Controlling resource utilization on database servers whose resource demand exceeds its capacity.
• Advanced resource management for complex configurations involving multiple CPUs and multiple database instances.
• Automating launching routine maintenance tasks and even application functions using the database Scheduler.
• Centralized administration of database instances and host systems located throughout the enterprise using the remote database Scheduler capabilities.
• Tightly integrating database facilities with other operations within an organization using File Watcher jobs and e-Mail notification capabilities of the extended Scheduler.
Instructor-Led Training (ILT) / Live Virtual Training ScheduleThis textbook may be used as one module within a Sideris courseware kit entitled ORACLE DATABASE 11G R2: ADMINISTRATION II. When delivered in this format as an instructor-led training (ILT) or live virtual training session, the suggested presentation length of all modules included in this kit is 5 days. The sequence in which the modules should be considered is:
• ORACLE DATABASE 11G R2: ADVANCED DATABASE ADMINISTRATION
• ORACLE DATABASE 11G R2: RESOURCE MANAGER & SCHEDULER
• ORACLE DATABASE 11G R2: RMAN BACKUP & RECOVERY
In the interest of completing all of the material within the allotted time one may consider omitting certain workshop exercises or presenting selected sections in an accelerated manner.
Instructor-Led Training (ILT) / Live Virtual Training Schedule [custom module]
This textbook may also be used either as a standalone course or as one module assembled with others in a customized training course.
When delivered as a standalone instructor-led training (ILT) or live virtual training session, the suggested length of this module is 2 days. This allows sufficient time to explore all the topics in their entirety and for students to complete all the workshop exercises.
